SABE Conference - Call for Volunteers
The SABE Conference is just a couple weeks away, September 4-7, 2008, and will be held at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown. Conference registrations to date have exceeded the projection of 1,000 attendees and continue to be received. However, there is a shortage of volunteers to assist with the conference. It is extremely important that we fill all of the volunteer positions so that we are able to serve our members and show true Indiana hospitality to a national audience.

Organizational Change Forum, Kansas City
Mark your calendars and plan to attend the Fifth National Organizational Change Forum: Employment First! A Manifesto for Change, September 24-25, 2008 in Kansas City, MO.
The Forum is intended to be interactive and action oriented. All presenters and participants will be actively involved in generating a national agenda for change. Join Forum participants as historic changes toward inclusive employment are traced. Hear from leaders who have aligned federal, state, and local systems and agencies to offer job seekers employment and community life supports. Participate in lively discussion and planning related to policy and system change, leadership and management, transition and career development, and integrated employment. Be a part of discussions to establish a National Agenda on Organizational Change and Employment First.
There will be opportunities for participants from the same state to begin to organize and promote Employment First initiatives in their home state. We encourage State Teams to attend that may include State Vocational Rehabilitation and Developmental Disabilities agency representatives, local community providers, One-Stop career center staff, local education agency staff, university faculty and others. Social Security Benefits Planning Workshop Date Change
The Indiana Institute's Center on Community Living and Careers, in conjunction with Vocational Rehabilitation Services, announces that the date for the last in a series of regional two-day workshops on social security and benefits planning has been changed. Originally scheduled for October 28-29, 2008, the new training dates are November 4-5, 2008. The training location remains the same, Bosma Industries, Indianapolis.
Case managers, VR counselors, family members, persons with disabilities, BDDS personnel, representative payees, independent living personnel, transition coordinators, mental health personnel, advocates, employment specialists, and residential staff should plan to attend.
Learning objectives of this workshop include:
· Basics of supplemental security income and social security disability
insurance;
· Work incentives for SSI;
· Work incentives for SSDI trial work periods; and
· Other federal and state programs such as Medicare and Medicare Part D.
Becky Banks, MA, LSW is an experienced researcher, trainer, and consultant on disability and employment. She is adjunct faculty with the Indiana Supported Employment Training Team and has supported research on the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act. Additionally, Banks has supported information on creating a Medicaid Buy-In work incentive for employed people with disabilities and is the Project Coordinator for the Benefits Information Network.
Registration fee is $85.00 per person. There is no cost to VRS personnel. Seating is limited to 25 attendees per site. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be available at the training. CELL's Ten Year Celebration
Congratulations to the Institute's Center on Education and Lifelong Learning! The Center celebrated its tenth year anniversary this month. The mission of the Center is to work with schools and communities to welcome, include, educate and support all learners.
The Center supports schools in a variety of ways. Assistance is provided to schools and districts in developing leadership teams that represent all school/community stakeholders and facilitate the teams' efforts as they pursue the schools' self-designated goals. The center also provides support and ongoing professional development to enhance the leadership skills of school administrators. Professional growth opportunities are available in several key areas, such as collaboration and teaming; data-based decision-making; differentiating instruction; school-wide positive behavior support; service learning; and on-going evaluation of programs and student learning.
