Special Education - A Complex Maze Workshop

Indiana families of children with special needs are challenged to find their way through the complicated system of special education and Article 7. About Special Kids addresses this problem and offers options and answers in a training session that will be held in the Speedway area of Indianapolis on April 30th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Article 7 and IEPs are both complex and daunting, yet thousands of families in Orange County need an understanding of both processes to help their child with special needs. About Special Kids (ASK) has recognized the needs of the community and will offer a training that covers special education laws and regulations for Indiana children ages three-21, and present information on how to prepare for a case conference and write an IEP. This training is provided for family members and professionals who advocate for children with a disability or a serious, chronic illness.

The training will be held at the Speedway United Methodist Church at 5065 W. 16th Street, Indianapolis. To register, visit www.aboutspecialkids.org/training. ASK provides educational/informational trainings throughout the year to help families and professionals understand the complex system of public health insurance, Article 7 and the IEP process. ASK helps families of children with special needs navigate complex systems to access what they need to better care for their child. Through ASK, families gain valuable knowledge about systems, resources and options and receive peer support from parents of children with special needs.

Additional IEP trainings will be held:

Saturday, May 9, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Business Expo 09 Photograph

Around Town. Institute Center Surveys Bloomington's Business Expo Participants

Utilizing the innovative technology that powers the Institute’s Center for Planning and Policy Studies Collaborative Work Lab, Center staff were in attendance at Bloomington Business Expo on Thursday of last week to conduct an event satisfaction survey. Survey results are used by event planners to evaluate what worked and what didn’t in planning for future events.

Now in its 25th year, Business Expo provides an opportunity for businesses to showcase their goods and services and network with the parade of more than 3,000 event attendees. Business Expo is sponsored by the South Central Indiana Small Business Development Center and the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce.
