20th Annual Steve Green's Charity Golf Outing: Former Indiana Pacer and IU Basketball star Steve Green, will host the 20th annual charity golf tournament to benefit The Arc of Indiana on June 26, 2009. The highlight of this year’s event will be an appearance by Indiana University Men’s Basketball Coach Tom Crean.

Named Indiana University’s 28th head basketball coach in 2008, Crean has been relentless in embracing the tradition of Indiana University and building bridges for future fans of Indiana Basketball.

He and his staff have recruited one of the top 10 classes in the country for 2009 and the top class in the Big Ten. In 10 years as a head coach on the collegiate level, he is 196-121 and has seen all 27 of the seniors who have played for him earn college degrees.

The tournament will be held at The Legends of Indiana Golf Course in Franklin, Indiana. Lunch will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 12:00 p.m. Prizes will be awarded after the round is completed, at approximately 5:00 p.m. The tournament is open to both advanced and recreational golfers.

Coach Crean will be available to meet individuals during lunch and will kick off the tournament with a few comments at 11:45 a.m. Tickets for only the lunch portion of the day are available for individuals who would like to meet Coach Crean but not golf. On-line registration is available at The Arc’s website.  Visit www.arcind.org click on upcoming events.  Or, you may call the office at (317) 977-2375 or 1-800-382-9100.

Davis to Keynote at 2009 Social Work Institute: Kim Davis, Research Associate with the Institute’s Indiana Resource Center for Autism, will provide the Keynote address at the University of Southern Indiana’s 11th Annual School Social Work Institute, June 9-12, 2009. Davis’ Keynote, titled Autism Spectrum Disorders: The Changing Landscape, will focus on her 30 years of experience in dealing with persons with Autism, Asperger's, and other Autism Spectrum Disorders regarding changes in terminology used for diagnosis, growth of treatment methods, public awareness, the need for community involvement, the value of relationships, and learning to listen to those who experience the disability first hand. Additionally, Davis will present a concurrent session on the impact of movement difference and sensory challenges for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Goodbye to Lois Hutter-Pishgahi: Lois Hutter-Pishgahi has left the Indiana Institute’s Early Childhood Center to pursue new opportunities! Lois has been an integral member of the Early Childhood Center team since 1996 and has guided numerous projects that involved research, in-service education, outreach, and product development.

In her thirteen years at the Institute, Lois has contributed much to helping early education providers successfully include young children in community settings. Her work focused on developing functional, appropriate goals for children’s individualized service plans, enhancing the social skills of young children, providing intervention services in community settings, lifespan planning, school readiness and universal design, and strategies that support professional development.

Lois’s work as a Research Associate at the Center has been a natural extension of her degree in Adapted Physical Education and her roles as the Director of a Respite Care Program for people with developmental disabilities and as the Special Needs Coordinator for a Head Start program. Her experiences and expertise enabled her to bring real world insights to her writing and professional development efforts that translate research to practice.

An important aspect of Lois is her artistic creativity. Her new opportunities give her a chance to be fully immersed in the art which Reza, her husband, and she develop. Lois’s official title will be Marketing Director, but marketing directors get to play with glass and fabric too. We will miss her thoughtfulness, intellect, caring, and humor, and wish her every success in this new exciting journey.
