TEACCH TRAINING WRAP-UP: The 2009 TEACCH 5-Day Classroom Training Program, (presented by Division TEACCH and Indiana Resource Center for Autism in collaboration with Monroe County Community School Corporation) was held at Jackson Creek Middle School in Bloomington on June 22-26.
Participants included Parents, Administrators, Special Education Teachers, Speech-Language Pathologists and School Psychologists from 11 counties in Indiana and Canada. The training combined hands-on classroom experience (including setting up the classroom for real students and working with these students), lectures on topics related to working with students with autism and group discussions of activities. Five students (all attend schools within the Monroe County Community School Corporation) with ages ranging from 8 to16 years attended the training classroom. Their parents also shared their perspectives in a parent panel and interview session.

Participants’ comments about the strengths of the workshop included the following:
“Best workshop I’ve ever attended - practical strategies that I can use immediately”
“Taught me how to teach my students to do things independently”
“This training was very powerful in showing how and why TEACCH methods work with students with autism”
“I now know how to set up my classroom to enable my students to learn and be successful”
