SABE 2008
The early bird registration deadline for the Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE) Conference, scheduled for September 4-7, 2008 in Indianapolis, has been extended to July 15, 2008. Save $75.00 on your conference registration fee! The conference will offer over 90 breakout sessions led by self-advocates from across the country!. Complimentary wheelchair accessible airport shuttles will be available at scheduled times for conference attendees, tours to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indy Zoo will be offered, and the Colts will be playing a home game in the new Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, September 7.

Organizational Change Forum, Kansas City
Mark your calendars and plan to attend the Fifth National Organizational Change Forum: Employment First! A Manifesto for Change, September 24-25, 2008 in Kansas City, Mo.
The Forum is intended to be interactive and action oriented. All presenters and participants will be actively involved in generating a national agenda for change. Join Forum participants as historic changes toward inclusive employment are traced. Hear from leaders who have aligned federal, state, and local systems and agencies to offer job seekers employment and community life supports. Participate in lively discussion and planning related to policy and system change, leadership and management, transition and career development, and integrated employment. Be a part of discussions to establish a National Agenda on Organizational Change and Employment First.
There will be opportunities for participants from the same state to begin to organize and promote Employment First initiatives in their home state. We encourage State Teams to attend that may include State Vocational Rehabilitation and Developmental Disabilities agency representatives, local community providers, One-Stop career center staff, local education agency staff, university faculty and others. Afterglow: Sharing Life Stories
On May 16, 2008, the Museum of the Person International Network (Brazil, Portugal, and USA) and the Center for Digital Storytelling (USA) invited interested individuals to participate in an International Day of Sharing Life Stories. The day provided opportunities for people around the world to gather in community halls, classrooms, public parks, theaters, auditoriums, as well as websites, e-mail exchanges, and virtual environments to hear each other's stories.
The Institute's Center on Aging and Community is actively engaged in promoting an understanding of the history and experience of aging and disability through projects that create opportunities and modes of expression allowing individuals to speak for themselves, whether or not they use words as part of their daily communication. Their work includes projects that nurture the creative potential and recognize the artistic accomplishments of people with disabilities. This emphasis on Arts and Humanities comes out of a commitment to listen to voices that are seldom heard and to share stories that have never been told.
