ADA-FOCUSED WEBINARS
: The EEOC and the ADA National Network will host two ADA-focused webinars this week. Employers and people with disabilities frequently have questions about the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s role in interpreting and enforcing Title I of the ADA. On Wednesday, August 4, from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Eastern),  participants will learn about  the EEOC’s administrative process, including work share agreements, mediation, investigations, and case selection, as well as an update on the EEOC's ADA litigation.

Presenters include Deborah Hamilton, Regional Attorney, EEOC, Chicago, Illinois; Alan Goldstein, JD, Senior Attorney, Equip for Equality (Illinois Protection and Advocacy Program); and Barry Taylor, JD, Director of Legal Services, Equip for Equality.

On Thursday, August 5, from 2:30-4:00 p.m. (Eastern), the ADA National Network and the U.S. Access Board will offer a webinar on vehicle guidelines. The U.S. Access Board originally issued its ADA Accessibility Guidelines for transportation vehicles in 1991. With the advent of new technologies and vehicles having been introduced into public transportation, this session will review proposed updates to the ADA guidelines for buses and vans. Subsequent rulemaking will be undertaken to update requirements for rail cars and other types of vehicles covered by the guidelines.  James J. Raggio, Esq., General Counsel, U.S. Access Board, will be the featured presenter.

These webinars are free but you do need to register. Visit www.accessibilityonline.org and click on the Registration Information web link to start the process. There are a few Indiana organizations hosting the webinar for the public. Please visit the ADA-Indiana website if you are interested in attending at one of those locations at http://www.adaindiana.org/webinars.

20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PASSAGE OF THE ADA

2010 by 2010 Logo

ADA PROCLAMATIONS: Congratulations to Indiana for placing among the top five states nationally in terms of the number of ADA “Proclamations of Recommitment” to the implementation of the ADA submitted to the 2010 by 2010 Project! The Proclamations Project was a national initiative by the ADA Network to collect 2,010 "Proclamations of Recommitment" to the mission of the ADA in recognition of the 20th anniversary of the ADA by the end of the year.

North Carolina ranked first with 125 signatories, then Kansas with 106, and Missouri with 80. Indiana ranked FOURTH with 75 signatories and FIRST among the six states in the Great Lakes region. Ohio with 69 signatures ranks fifth nationally and second in our region.

ADA-Indiana and the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who assisted in getting the word out and promoting adoption of the ADA Proclamations in Indiana. There is still time to forge ahead! If you still wish to have your organization sign the Proclamation, or submit one, visit www.2010anniversary.org  to do so. Proclamations will be accepted until the end of August. For further information about the Proclamations, e-mail adainfo@indiana.edu or contact Vicki Pappas, Sharon Hauss, or Matt Norris at the Indiana Institute at (812) 855-6508.
