WEBINAR ON CREATING ACCESSIBLE VIDEOS FOR YOUR WEBSITE: Video has become a common means of sharing information about everyday activities and events. Yet, this technology remains largely inaccessible to people with sensory impairments. While there are tools available to facilitate the creation of accessible video content, the availability and use of these tools is not widely known and/or understood.
On Wednesday, September 8 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. eastern time, ADA-Online Indiana will host a free webinar addressing the key features of accessible video including what steps to consider when planning and developing accessible video content and demonstrations on how these techniques can be utilized.
Marsha Swanke, a Web Developer with the Southeast ADA Center, will be the featured speaker. Swanke has eight years of experience in designing, programming, testing, and managing content-rich, database-driven web applications that maximize accessibility and usability based on “best practices” research and established guidelines, such as the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Section 508.
This webinar is free of charge but you must register to participate. To register, visit
http://www.ada-audio.org/Webinar/AccessibleTechnology/ and click on the “Register” web link to start the process. There are a few Indiana organizations hosting this webinar for the public. Visit

REGIONAL WORKSHOPS ON APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS: The Institute’s Indiana Resource Center for Autism will host seven regional workshops starting in October through December, 2010 focusing on applied behavior analysis.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) include strategies and techniques that have years of proven research. With the increasing use of this technology, there is often misunderstanding about how and when strategies can be used. In truth, these are proven strategies that can be embedded into any classroom, school, community, or home setting. In these workshops, strategies associated with ABA will be described and examples provided that can be used in a range of settings. The ultimate goal is to provide individuals with tools they can use immediately to decrease problematic behaviors and to teach appropriate alternative skills.
These workshops are geared for early childhood providers, general and special education teachers, administrators, autism consultants, speech therapists, psychologists, family members, and any other professionals working with individuals with a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder.
