CORRECTIONS AND THE ADA AUDIO CONFERENCE: Studies show that a large number of individuals within the prison system are people with disabilities. The literature discusses how the various systems serving incarcerated individuals have historically treated people with disabilities in a manner that did not address their rights to equal access to programs and services, as well as the removal of physical barriers or provision of effective communication.
On Tuesday, September 21 from 2:00 -3:30 p.m. (Eastern), Elizabeth Stanosheck Jeanette, with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, will discuss the strides that have been made, and strategies implemented within the corrections community, to address the rights of individuals with disabilities while retaining its focus on imposing punishment.
Audio Conference Site Locations include Bloomington, Columbus, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Gary, Indianapolis, Kokomo, Merrillville, Muncie, Terre Haute, Versailles, Vincennes, and West Lafayette. Visit
www.adaindiana.org/audio for specific information about these site locations. For additional information, contact Matt Norris at (812) 855-6508 or e-mail

ADA-INDIANA ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TO HOST 2010-2011 ADA AUDIO CONFERENCE SERIES: ADA-Indiana, Indiana’s State Steering Committee for the Americans with Disabilities Act, announces that funding is available to community organizations in Indiana to host a monthly series of Audio Conferences related to the implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
These audio conferences present easy-to-attend, consistent training, and public awareness about implementation issues related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (the ADA). Topics will vary from employment, federal agency updates on enforcement and outreach, and information on the new ADA regulations. The 90-minute audio conferences are usually held on the third Tuesday of each month at 2:00 pm, EST. The 2010-2011 audio conference series will begin on October 19th, 2010 and continue through September 2011. Funding is available for a one-year period, from October 2010 through September 2011.
