FREE WEBINARS FROM THE ADA NATIONAL NETWORK IN NOVEMBER
: The ADA National Network is hosting three webinars in November.

How to Conduct a Workplace Computer Accessibility Assessment:  Accessible Technology Webinar
Tuesday, November 9th
2:00 - 3:30 p.m. EASTERN

Choosing the appropriate accommodations for an employee with a disability can be a daunting task. The Internet is flooded with products to accommodate limitations when using a computer. But where to begin? How do you know you are getting the right product or setup for your employee? This presentation will provide an overview of the process, ergonomics, and assistive technology products that can help you make the right choices in providing accommodations for computer tasks. Case studies will be used to illustrate the methodology.

It's free, but registration is required to participate in the webinar.

Stop Announcements and Route Identification: Transportation Webinar
Tuesday, November 9th
 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. EASTERN

If you are interested in transportation issues and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), plan to participate the second session of the 7-part free webinar series being offered by the ADA National Network and Easter Seals Project ACTION. Each session will focus on one of the seven Topic Guides on ADA Transportation, a series of Technical Assistance publications released by the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF) earlier this year (see the Topic Guides on ADA Transportation -  http://www.dredf.org/ADAtg/).

This webinar session will cover the Topic Guide 2: Stop Announcements and Route Identification. The ADA requires transit agencies to announce stops on the bus and train, as well as to identify bus and train routes at stops that serve more than one route. The session will address stop announcement and route identification procedures and technology, stop announcement lists, policies and training, monitoring, progressive discipline, incentives, enlisting the aid of the community, and complaint investigation. There will be time for participant questions.

It's free, but registration is required to participate in the webinar.

Service Animals and the ADA: Legal Webinar
Wednesday, November 10th
2:00 - 3:30 p.m. EASTERN

Many people with disabilities use service animals to assist them in a wide variety of tasks. Often employers, businesses and governmental entities have questions about their responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and legal limitations regarding permissible inquiries. People with disabilities need to understand their rights and responsibilities as well.

This session will review recent case decisions addressing service animal issues, as well as relevant federal regulations and guidance, including the new Department of Justice regulations.

It's free, but registration is required to participate in the webinar.

There are a few Indiana organizations hosting the ADA Legal webinars for the public. Please visit the ADA-Indiana website if you are interested in attending at one of those locations at http://www.adaindiana.org/webinars.

IT’S NOT A CASE BUT A PERSON WORKSHOP
: The Institute’s Phil Stafford, Director of the Center on Aging and Community will present a two-day workshop with a focus on building communication bridges in dementia care on Monday, November 29 and Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the Center for Aging and Community, Fountain Square, Indianapolis.

Communication is hard enough in normal circumstances, let alone those situations in which an individual being served has cognitive changes associated with forms of dementia. Participants in this workshop will leave with the belief that persons with dementia are never "not here" – that it is our inability to communicate, not theirs, which results in social isolation and so-called loss of self.

One-day registration fee is $45.00 per person. Two-day fee, $90.00 per person. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be offered (.9 CEUs). There is an additional fee of $15.00 for those seeking CEU certification. For content questions, contact Phil Stafford (staffor@indiana.edu) at (812) 855-6508. For registration inquiries, contact Lora Wagers at (812) 855-6508 or e-mail lwagers@indiana.edu. Visit http://www.iidc.indiana.edu/index.php?pageId=3317 for further workshop details.
