Indiana Resource Center for Autism Logo

ZIGGURAT AND C.A.P.S. MODEL WORKSHOP: The Institute’s Indiana Resource Center for Autism will host a two-day workshop, March 17-18, 2011, at the School City of Hammond Area Career Center, focusing on the Ziggurat Model which is a guide for designing comprehensive behavior interventions for individuals of all ages with autism spectrum disorders. The Ziggurat model is then applied to creating a plan involving evidence-based practices to create a Comprehensive Autism Planning System (CAPS).

This workshop is geared for general and special education teachers, administrators, autism consultants, speech therapists, psychologists, counselors and families. It is suggested that participants come in pairs or small groups for the training; however, individuals are welcome. Bring a student case to apply and work through the process while at the training.

Registration fee is $200.00 per person and is limited to 50 attendees. Certificates of Attendance will be provided at no charge. CEUs (general education) will be available on-site for a fee of $15.00 per person. Contact Melissa Dubie for content questions at (812) 855-6508 or e-mail mdubie@indiana.edu. FUNDING FOR LOCAL ADA IMPLEMENTATION PROJECTS ANNOUNCED: ADA-Indiana, in conjunction with the Indiana Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities, is pleased to announce that funding is available for the 2011 Keith Coros Community ADA Implementation Projects.

Funding up to $2,500.00 is available for projects submitted by social service agencies, local government entities, schools, businesses, or other community organizations interested in increasing implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In keeping with the advocacy efforts of former ADA-Indiana member, Keith Coros (1946-2008), the purpose of this program is to promote increased implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act in Indiana’s local communities.

Effective Communication for Your Child’s Special Education

INSOURCE and the Anderson Community School Corporation Special Education Department will provide training in the area of effective communication for your child’s special education.

This training is free and open to the public and will be presented by Maggie Mattingly, INSOURCE Regional Program Specialist. The training will be held at the Anderson Community Schools, Administration Building, Room 111, 101 West 29th Street from 7:00-8:30 p.m.

Understanding Article 7: Indiana’s Special Education Process

This session covers basic information about Indiana’s special education law and is designed to help parents, teachers, teacher aides, and others involved in the education of children with disabilities understand Article 7 and how to apply it to their specific situation.

Information covered includes referral and the evaluation processes, the individualized education program, procedural safeguards for parents and skills for effective communication.

This training is free and open to the public and will be presented by Jane Fuentes, INSOURCE Regional Program Specialist. The training will be held at the Peabody Public Library, 1160 East S.R. 205, Columbia City, IN from 10:00–1:00 p.m.

Fairs/Exhibits (Adult Transition) – Riley Hospital Transition Planning Fair

Materials and information will be available to assist parents in learning about INSOURCE services and programs, general basic special education rights and responsibilities, and transitioning students and children to adult services.

The Fair is free and open to the public. Jennifer Littlefield will be representing INSOURCE. The Fair will be held at Riley Hospital-Edward Block Library, ROC 1st Floor Commons, 702 Barnhill Drive, Indianapolis, IN from 10:00-2:00 p.m.
