ADA-INDIANA AUDIO CONFERENCE: Can someone bring a Title III suit against a business if they have no intention of visiting that business again? When does the time for filing with the EEOC get extended from 180 days to 300 days? How do you determine whether an employer has enough employees to be subject to an ADA suit? This ADA-Indiana session will answer these and other questions about the often confusing requirements and barriers when bringing suit under the ADA, utilizing recent case law analyzing these issues.
Procedural Requirements and Barriers when Bringing Suit under the ADA will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. (eastern). It's free, but registration is required. Presenters include Alan Goldstein, JD, Senior Attorney, Equip for Equality (Illinois Protection and Advocacy Program) and Barry Taylor, JD, Director of Legal Services, Equip for Equality.

TEACCH FIVE DAY TRAINING: The Institute’s Indiana Resource Center for Autism will host a five-day training, graduate credit and Professional Growth Points offered, for professionals who work with students with autism, June 20-24, 2011 at the Edgewood Early Childhood Center, Ellettsville, IN.
This intensive five-day workshop combines hands-on classroom experience (including setting up the classroom for five students), lectures on topics related to working with students with autism, and group discussions of classroom activities including:
- Supervised experience in a demonstration classroom setting;
- Hands-on experiences with students with autism of varying ages and functioning levels;
- Active learning; and
- Presentations and demonstration of working with students with autism.
Registration fee is $1,990.00 per person. Attendance is required for all five days. Certificates of attendance will be provided and free to be used as Professional Growth Points. CEUs will be available on-site. An administrative fee of $15.00 will be charged. Graduate course credit will also be offered on the first day. FIND LOCAL TRANSITION RESOURCES WITH A CLICK OF YOUR MOUSE: Teachers, administrators, families and students can now easily locate secondary transition resources in their local area or throughout the state. Thanks to the new Community Resource map located on the website of the Indiana Secondary Transition Resource Center (INSTRC), users can search by county for disability and employment service organizations, health care options, family supports, housing and independent living centers, and more.

NEW FINANCIAL EDUCATION WEBINAR TOMORROW: Representatives from Indiana financial coalitions, community rehabilitation providers, and community mental health centers are invited to participate in a free financial education webinar, Tuesday, May 17, from 2-3:30 p.m.
Sponsored by the Indiana Asset Development and Financial Literacy project of the Institute’s Center on Community Living and Careers, tomorrow’s webinar will feature Vicki Van Horn, Executive Director of the New Mexico Project for Financial Literacy. She will discuss solutions to existing barriers that may prevent people with disabilities from accessing financial education. Visit

BRAIN INJURY SYMPOSIUM: The Bloomington Brain Injury Local Support Network is hosting the second of four 2011 Educational Symposiums on Wednesday, May 18, 2011. The topic is Creating a 24-Hour Plan of Care After Brain Injury. SELF-ADVOCATES STIPEND FUND LAUNCHED: The Alliance for Full Participation has launched a self- advocate stipend fund to provide assistance to self- advocates and family members to travel to the Summit 2.0 Real Jobs- It’s Everyone’s Business, scheduled for November 17-19, 2011, Gaylord National Harbor, Washington D.C.
The stipend fund was launched by a grant from the Administration on Developmental Disabilities, and is being supplemented by additional contributions from across the country. "NASDDDS believes in the power of self-advocates to create a new future," said Nancy Thaler, CEO. "We are contributing to AFP's self-advocate fund because we believe it is critical that self-advocates be present and be heard at the upcoming Summit." Contributions $100 or larger will be recognized on the AFP website and at the AFP Summit. AFP's Stipend fund totaled $27,000, as of May 10, 2011. AFP’s goal is to raise $50,000.
