ADA-Indiana Audio Conference
You may have heard about tax credits and deductions and the Americans with Disabilities Act. This month's audio conference will feature Dr. Craig White, CPA and Chair of the Academic Accounting Department at the University of New Mexico's Anderson School of Management, on federal tax incentives and the ADA.
The Application of Federal Tax Incentives Supporting the Americans with Disabilities Act
Tuesday, October 16th 2:00-3:30 p.m. EASTERN

The presenter will cover the range of tax credits and deductions available to businesses to improve access for people with disabilities including the Access Credit and the Work Opportunity Credit as they aggregate with other business related incentives as components of the General Business Credit. Dr. White will also discuss notable cases that illustrate how these tax provisions interact with ADA provisions, and the possible impact of the 2010 ADA Standards on these incentives.

Autism-Focused WebShare Series
The Institute’s Indiana Resource Center for Autism (IRCA) is excited to announce a new series of information sharing sessions on autism via the web called WebShare. These WebShare Series sessions are free and designed for parents and caregivers to learn information about:
Autism and Puberty Helping Your Child Develop Communication Skills Visual Schedules: How and Why to Use Them at Home How To Use Social Narratives To Help Your Son or Daughter Understand the World Behavior Strategies for Home IEP: Becoming Informed How Movement Difference Impacts Individuals with ASD Creating a Circle of Support
The first WebShare Series session is scheduled for October 17, 2012. Melissa Dubie, Educational Consultant, will present on the topic: Autism and Puberty. This will be a live session with the recorded session available by October 22, 2012.
Additional sessions will be presented by the staff of the IRCA. Links to the recorded sessions will be available on the IRCA website. When sessions become available, an announcement will be distributed via the IRCA Reporter E-Newsletter, the Institute’s FYI Newsletter, Facebook, Twitter, and other resources. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session for the WebShare session. Each WebShare will be approximately 1 hour in length. New Directions in Autism Care and Research Panel Presentation in Bloomington
Mark your calendars for Monday, October 22, 2012, and plan to attend a panel presentation where four panelists will discuss autism from the perspective of the direct care provider, educator, researcher, and counselor. Panelists include Dr. Dan Kennedy, Indiana University, Fritz Kruggel, Behavior Analyst/Clinician, Dr. Cathy Pratt, Indiana University, and Mari Shawcroft, Stonebelt Arc. This event is FREE and open to the general public.
The presentation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 401 North Morton Street, Suite 115, Bloomington. Building Leadership Series 2
Indiana needs more voices speaking up and more leadership from people with intellectual/developmental disabilities. After five years of remarkable success, the Building Leadership Series has expanded and now offers a new set of workshops. BLS 2 provides opportunities for participants to increase their knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills.
BLS graduates speak up more, ask for what they want, make more choices, take more control of their lives, and are more engaged in civic activities. Support staff leave with a new sense of the persons they support and new skills to best provide support.
BLS 2 consists of three-two day workshops. Training dates are:
March 20-21, 2013 April 24-25, 2013 May 22-23, 2013
Workshops will focus on:
Relationships, Romance, and Intimacy Community Membership/Civic Engagement Healthy Aging/Healthy Living
Each workshop is designed to be highly interactive with opportunities for participant discussions, small and large group activities, role playing, brainstorming, and problem solving. A companion workbook follows the presentations and allows for notes and key ideas to be included.

37th Annual LD and ADHD Conference
The Learning Disabilities Association of Indiana will host its Annual State LD and ADHD Conference on Friday, November 2, 2012 at the Ritz Charles Conference Center in Carmel, Indiana.
This conference is designed to improve the education and lifelong outcome of students with Learning Disabilities and Attention Deficit Disorders. Wendy Murawski, Ph.D., President and CEO of 2TEACH will be the featured Keynote speaker.
A limited number of registration scholarships for parents and teachers are available through grants from the Indiana Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities and the Lilly Endowment, Inc.
