Structured Teaching Strategies Workshop
The Institute’s Indiana Resource Center for Autism will host a two-day workshop on structured teaching for students with autism spectrum disorders on November 29-30, 2012. Research consistently indicates that individuals with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) respond favorably to a structured environment. Structured Teaching Strategies provides participants with an understanding of how and why to implement structured teaching strategies, such as visual schedules, work systems, and deliberately designed work materials. This workshop will emphasize practical strategies that attendees can begin using immediately in their settings.
This workshop is designed for general and special education teachers, administrators, autism consultants, speech therapists, psychologists, family members, and any other professional working with individuals with a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder.
Registration fee is $350.00. Payment may be made by credit card or purchase order only. The workshop is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (local time) with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m. on the first day. Breakfast and lunch will be on your own. All registrations are final. No money will be refunded. For more information or to register, visit http://www.iidc.indiana.edu/index.php?pageId=3569. |

Early Childhood Meeting Place Awareness Campaign
The Institute’s Early Childhood Center is initiating several new efforts to improve the Early Childhood Meeting Place website and increase awareness of this resource among Indiana families and professionals who care for and serve young children. And, we need your help.
We have gathered information on thousands of events, resources, and information that is specific to Indiana and focused to meet the needs of both your users and ours. Would you help us connect Indiana families and early childhood professionals to this resource by adding a link to the Early Childhood Meeting Place on your website?
We have created multiple images from which to choose and the necessary instructions/code so that your website manager can simply generate the link on your site. We are also implementing these strategies to get the information out. We will: Provide new, interesting, and changing content on the home and section home pages.
We are adding content that changes weekly. This includes highlighted events and resources; early childhood news via blog or links, YouTube clips, and highlighting the most frequently viewed events and resources. Establish a greater web presence through social media.
We are expanding our use of social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter) to highlight the events and resources available on the Meeting Place. Increase resources for users, in particular for users who speak Spanish.
Resources are being added to the professional, family, and Familia pages. This will include state, local, and internet information and resources. In addition, we are developing and posting YouTube clips of “how to use the calendar/resources, etc.” If you are interested in having a link to the Meeting Place to connect Indiana families and early childhood professionals with Meeting Place events, resources, and information, contact Alice Frazeur Cross at (812) 855-2145 or via e-mail at afcross@indiana.edu. |

It is easy to become a member of this coalition. Just click on the BECOME A MEMBER tab. By joining, you will be added to the Coalition’s e-mail list and receive announcements, information, and tools on voter registration, voter education, and efforts to get out the vote and increase the voting power of the disability community.
Browse the DACVEP website to find valuable information and tools for individuals and organizations. You may also request information by e-mailing dacvep@gmail.com to be added to the membership list. Follow the Disability Advocacy Coalition Voter Education Project on Facebook and Twitter for updates, efforts toward voter participation, education, and assistance.

The disability community comprises about 20% of society, making this the largest minority constituency in the country. As a non-partisan effort, this project strives to increase the voting power of the disability community and identify key issues that are pertinent in the 2012 elections so that individuals may make informed decisions when choosing elected officials. |
