Free ADA Webinar
On December 6th, the ADA National Network and the U.S. Access Board will present a free webinar on the status of rulemaking on accessible medical diagnostic equipment.
Accessible Medical Diagnostic Equipment Free Webinar Thursday, December 6th 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. EASTERN It's free, but REGISTRATION is required to participate in the webinar.
The U.S. Access Board recently released for public comment accessibility standards for medical diagnostic equipment. Developed under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the proposed standards address access for people with disabilities to examination tables and chairs, weight scales, mammography equipment, and other equipment used for diagnostic purposes. The standards provide design criteria that will allow independent access to diagnostic equipment, including types that require transfer from wheelchairs and other mobility aids. Provisions address transfer surfaces, support rails, armrests, compatibility with lift devices, and other features to facilitate transfer. This session will provide an overview and update on the status of this important rulemaking.

“Keeping Up With the Joneses” or Learning to Use YouTube Videos for Indiana's Early Childhood Community
Information sharing is evolving and it is critical to learn new strategies to meet the needs of consumers. The Early Childhood Center at the Indiana Institute continues its entry into the use of social media for sharing information with Indiana's early education community. A major effort is the use of YouTube videos to let people know about important early childhood initiatives being carried out in Indiana, as well as research-based practices.
Through our Early Childhood Meeting Place website, we have posted our first YouTube video featuring the Early Childhood Alliance (ECA), a major resource to northern Indiana families looking for child care, for the child care community seeking training and mentoring, and more. In the video, Shannon Gage, Program Director for ECA, introduces Lanissa Maggert, ECA Infant Toddler Specialist, who presents Floor Time — The Secret to a Happy Baby.
Future videos will include a focus on resources for the Spanish-speaking communities. The Indiana Association for Child Care Resource and Referral (IACCRR) implements the Hispanic Outreach Project. In one video clip Vicky Cuenca, Hispanic Outreach Project Coordinator, talks about the services IACCRR offers Spanish-speaking families. In the other Yully Ortega, Quality Expansion Specialist, shares information about the services and supports that Spanish-speaking providers can access to learn about and offer high quality child care. In addition to YouTube Videos, information is shared with the early childhood community through Facebook and Twitter. |
