ADA-Indiana is pleased to announce the beginning of their new ADA Audio Conference Series. Each month ADA-Indiana will host a free Audio Conference in two Indiana locations, Bloomington, and Indianapolis.
These audio conferences provide continuing education on regulations and trends under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The 2007-08 Audio Conference season will feature several sessions on Employment and the ADA: Ask the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Accommodating Older Workers, Discrimination in Hiring under the ADA's Title I, and Accommodating Employees with Psychiatric Disabilities. Other sessions will feature updates on ADA enforcement and litigation, and other topics. Many sessions are approved for professional continuing education credits for rehabilitation and human resource professionals.

The first annual MOSAIC film festival, presented by Diversity Theatre and the Monroe County Public Library, is set for Saturday, October 27 from 11:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the library. A selection of short films will deal with the issues of disability, age, race and ethnicity, and accepting differences.
Diversity Theatre Artistic Director, Audrey Heller says, "We will use the medium of film to focus on a variety of social issues, as Diversity Theatre has done with drama for more than twenty years. These films deal positively but realistically with all of the issues."
Films for adults will be shown in the MCPL auditorium and in an additional meeting room from 11:00 to 5:00 p.m. while films for children will be shown in the library's children's department from 11:00 -12:00 p.m. and repeated from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Admission is free, but registration is recommended.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 8, and plan to attend the Arc of Indiana's 2007 conference entitled a Golden Homecoming: 50 More Years of Progress, to be held at the Radisson Indianapolis North Hotel.
Mary Beth Busby and Megan Massey, co-authors of Dear Megan: Letters on Life, Love, and Fragile X, will be the featured keynote speakers. Three sets of concurrent workshops will offer 11 opportunities for attendees to receive information designed for parents, self-advocates, and service providers. Additionally, exhibitors will share information on programs, services, and products.
An appreciation luncheon will be held to honor those making a difference in the lives of people with disabilities throughout Indiana. Local Arc chapters will be recognized for leading the way in reaching new members, and State Representative Sheila Klinker will honor the Arc with a special resolution from the Indiana State House of Representatives.
Registration fee is $50.00 for Arc members, $60.00 for non-Arc members, $25.00 to attend the appreciation luncheon only, and $10.00 per person to attend the homecoming celebration dance. Visit http://www.arcind.org/ for more information or to register.
Dixie Patterson, Family/Parent Coordinator with the Indiana Institute's Center on Education and Lifelong Learning and Jo Gilbertson, were co-recipients of the Kristin Willison Volunteer Service Award presented by the City of Bloomington's Council for Community Accessibility last week.
The Kristin Willison Volunteer Award is presented to individuals who are deemed exemplary in facilitating accessibility and has made significant contributions to assist people with disabilities. Patterson and Gilbertson received the award as a result of their work as coordinators and Co-Presidents of Citizen Advocacy of South Central Indiana, Inc.
Additional award recipients and organizations included:
Business Service Award - Vickie Davison of Bloomington Hardware, for outstanding efforts hiring people with disabilities;
Special Recognition - Carole-Anne, Don and Jonathan Hossler, for the Hand %u2018n Hand project which collects food for the Community Kitchen; and Elizabeth Lyon for her inspirational advocacy as an MS Ambassador;
Self-Advocacy Award - Babette Hall, for advocacy on behalf of herself and others with disabilities;
Professional and Community Service Award - Daniel Grundmann, for exceptional efforts promoting and supporting employment for people with disabilities at the City of Bloomington and with Hire Potential Indiana;
Mayor's Award sponsored by the IU Credit Union - Karen Thomas, for years of efforts as a special educator supporting young adults with developmental disabilities in classroom and community settings.
The Awards Ceremony featured a keynote speech by Andrew Imparato, President and CEO of the American Association of People with Disabilities entitled Investing in a More Promising Future for People with Disabilities and Our Families.
The City of Bloomington's Community and Family Resources Department and Human Rights Commission, John Byers Associates, Hilton Garden Inn, Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, Indiana University Credit Union, Ivy Tech Community College, Kiwanis Club of Bloomington, Oliver Wine Company, Inc., Options for Better Living, Paralyzed Hoosier Veterans, Inc., and Stone Belt Arc, Inc. sponsored the awards ceremony.
