ADA-Indiana Audio Conference
There has been a change in ADA-Indiana's Audio Conference programmed for Tuesday, April 17, 2007. The ADA Restoration Act, originally scheduled for April 17, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 15.
April's audio conference will now focus on how the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) Charge Data System (CDS) can be used to explore differences between the filing of discrimination claims at EEOC and state Fair Employment Practice Agency (FEPA) offices. Examining the disability employment discrimination charges filed with the EEOC and Fair Employment Practice Agencies within states can inform and create an understanding of where specific issues continue. Wheelchair Tennis Clinic
The Indianapolis Community Tennis Association (ICTA), a long with Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana Sports Program (RHISP), is hosting a two-day tennis clinic on Saturday, April 14 (Southside Tennis Club, Indianapolis) and Sunday, April 15 (Indianapolis Racquet Club) designed specifically for persons who have physical disabilities.
Karen Korb, a two-time U.S. Paralympian and member of seven U.S.A. World Teams, will provide instruction over the course of this two-day clinic. Korb was the first female athlete with a physical disability to receive a Division I athletic scholarship to play collegiate wheelchair tennis.
Interested persons must be nine years of age or older to participate. Participants will learn the essentials of wheelchair pushing techniques, court movement strategies, and proper tennis strokes. For questions, contact Patrick Dean, RHISP Coordinator at (317) 329-2281 or e-mail pat.dean@rhin.com.
Summer Camp for Teachers
Educators, mark your calendars for xeither June 18-21 or June 25-28, and plan to attend the Institute's Center on Education and Life long Learning's Summer Camp for Teachers! All sessions will be held in Bloomington atxBloomington High School North. Teachers, administrators, and school teams at all grade levels are encouraged to attend.
Camp participants can choose from three available strands. They include:
· Classroom climate and discipline;
· Differentiated instruction; or
· Collaboration and co-teaching (Note: not offered during the June 18-21 session).
Registration fee is $225.00 per person. Three Indiana University graduate credits will be offered (credit fees are in addition to camp enrollment fees). Arc of the United States Launches New Website
Visit http://www.thearc.org and check out the new web community of the Arc of the United States. Visitors can:
· Connect to local chapters of The Arc;
· Register online and communicate with other online community users via discussion boards;
· Make a secure online donation;
· Access current and relevant information on intellectual and developmental disabilities; and
· Experience new website features added daily.
