Arts and Careers

What it is

In the fall of 2002, the CAC initiated a working partnership with the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) and the VSA arts of Indiana (VSA) to address the need for increased access to arts-related careers for people with disabilities. Since that time the initiatve has included formation of an advisory group, pursuit of grant funds to sponsor a statewide forum, and sponsorship of related events at the annual conference of the Governor's Council for People with Disabilities. The statewide forum was successfully carried out two years after the initiatve began.

What we're doing

Currently, new activities to follow-up this inaugural forum are being planned by the Art Works group, an informal alliance of individuals seeking to advance opportunities for people with disabilities in the arts.

The first Indiana statewide forum

Held in early October of 2004 for two exciting days, Indiana Art Works: Employing Creativity was held in Indianapolis. We helped many people and we spread the word about improving opportunities for people with disabilities in arts-related careers. For more information, you can read the summary report.
