Building Leadership Series

The Center on Aging and Community (CAC) wrapped up year three in November 2008 with a near capacity class of 19 participants from around the state. In April, CAC hosted a reunion for the 2006 and 2007 class with 24 particpants returning ready to make a formal presentation on new goals achieved, active roles they were now taking and how their lives had changed.

“Participants in the BLS had matured into much more confident, at ease citizens with personal goals proudly owned and clear enthusiasm about being in charge of their own lives.”    - Dr. David Mank, IIDC Director.

CAC is now presenting the Fall 2009 series to a new set of participants. The BLS project’ provides a series of three 2-day workshops over a three-month period this fall for adults with developmental disabilities. The series will take place in Bloomington at the Convention Center on September 22-23, October 21-22, and November 11-12, 2009. The BLS series is a five-year project and this is our fourth year.

The project funds up to 20 participants. This funding includes meals, overnights, attendant care as needed and a $60.00 attendance stipend to offset lost wages. Participants are asked to commit to the entire series of three workshops, a total of six days, and have the necessary staff/family support to attend and/or cover their personal business (work and/or appointments) while they are away.

If you are interested in more information, detailed descriptions of the three workshops can be found here.

Please call Jennie Todd (812-855-6508) with questions and/or referrals. Once referred, interested participants will receive an application packet. Each year we hope to have participants enrolled by June 1.
