Theo is a high school senior. He is tired of interpreting for his parents and younger brother Jeremy, who are deaf. They constantly rely on him to be their communication link to others. He is fluent in two languages: spoken English and American Sign Language. His mother is a successful sculptor, who expects Theo to act as her business manager to deal with the “hearies”. Jeremy also relies on Theo for help with his homework, another exacting job. Theo's father, Thomas, is the only one who tries not to take advantage of Theo's ears.
During the course of his senior year, Theo meets a girl, Ivy, who has a father who is deaf. Read this book to find out what happens to Thomas, Theo's father. What type of business does Ivy start up in addition to attending school? What work does Theo do as Ivy's paid assistant? Will Theo get to go on to college?
