June 30 - Legal Update on Title III of the ADA Case Law
Join ADA-Indiana in five locations throughout the state on June 30, 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. EASTERN for this HOSTED webinar session. The speakers will cover the obligations under the ADA for businesses. Title III requirements are not limited to addressing physical barriers, but also can include a business’ website, policies and services. This session will discuss Title III of the ADA, its regulations and recent case law decisions affecting businesses and their customers. The session will be 90 minutes and allows for time for questions and answers with the expert speakers. The sites sponsored by ADA-Indiana are free and open to the public.

ADA-Indiana hosted a training on the ADA, As Amended in four training locations (Bloomington, Indianapolis, Kokomo, and New Albany) on June 3rd. Our trainer for the afternoon was Peter Berg from the DBTAC: Great Lakes ADA Center.

Five Organization receive funding through ADA-Indiana's Grants Program

- President Obama commemorates the 10th Anniversary of Olmstead -From the Press Release: On the 10th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision in the case of Olmstead v. L.C., President Barack Obama today celebrated that anniversary and launched "The Year of Community Living," a new effort to assist Americans with disabilities.
- National Council on Disability releases new topical index of their publications -The National Council on Disability created a new webpage on their website that categorized their publications by topic. This is intended to make the information on their website easier to find. The topics include Americans with Disabilities Act, Civil Rights, Disability Statistics and Research, Education, Emergency Preparedness and Homeland Security, Employment, Health Care, International, Progress Reports, Technology, and Transportation.
- The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Votes to Revise Rules to Confrom to ADA Amendments Act -From the Press Release: The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) voted today to revise its regulations to conform to changes made by the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008, which would make it easier for an individual seeking protection under the ADA to establish that he or she has a disability.
- ADA-Indiana Member, Kim Paarlberg, presents at the National ADA Symposium -Kim Paarlberg, an ADA-Indiana member, was an expert presenter at the National ADA Symposium this past week. The International Code Council's electronic journal posted an article about her presentations and her background.
- Veterans with Service--Connected Disabilities in the Workplace and the ADA is the topic for the latest Disability Law Lowdown Podcast -From the show page: Jacquie Brennan goes over the EEOC fact sheet on veterans with service-connected disabilities in the workplace and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Topics covered include the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), the ADA, the differences in those two laws, the definition of disability under the ADA, the definition of "disabled veteran," questions from employers about disabilities, and reasonable accommodations.
- Enforcing the ADA, A Status Report from the Department of Justice -The U.S. Department of Justice has posted a new issue of Enforcing the ADA, A Status Report. The report contains updates on their ADA litigation activites, settlement agreements, and other related information covering July - December, 2008.
- Great Lakes Chronicle, June 2009 Volume 5 Issue 9 -This month's Chronicle has updates on the activities and new resources from the federal agencies: EEOC, Access Board, Department of Justice, and Department of Labor. The "In Focus" article features on temporary events. The "Ask the Expert" column addresses a question from an employer on the "right" procedure to handle an accommodation request.
- The U.S. Census releases a "Facts for Features" article on the Americans with Disabilities Act -In anticipation of the 19th Anniversary of the ADA, the U.S. Census has released their "Facts for Features" article on the Americans with Disabilities Act. The article contains statistics from various disability questions from recent national surveys. Some items include: 41.2 million people have some level of disability, 11 million people with disability (6 years and older) need personal assistance with everyday activities, and 13.3 million people (16- to 64-year-olds) reported that a medical condition makes it difficult to find a job or remain employed.
