ADA-Indiana is seeking 2011-2012 ADA Audio Conference Site Locations

ADA-Indiana is seeking to partner with community organizations in Indiana to host a monthly series of Audio Conferences related to the implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. ADA-Indiana intends to support up to 12 site locations for the 2011-2012 ADA Audio Conference Series.

Why become an Audio Conference Site Location?

The ADA Audio Conference program presents an easy-to-attend, consistent training, and public awareness about implementation issues related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). National guest speakers make presentations each month on topics varying from employment to accessible design to discussion of recent Supreme Court decisions and other legal cases. The 90-minute audio conferences are usually held on the third Tuesday of each month at 2:00 pm, Eastern. The new program season will begin in October 2011, and will continue through September 2012.

Sites will be selected from various areas of the State, except in Bloomington and Indianapolis, where sites are already being supported. Community organizations eligible to apply include United Ways, local government entities, Step Ahead Councils, Chambers of Commerce, local businesses, advocacy organizations, schools, institutions of higher education, Centers for Independent Living, and other community organizations.

Last year, ADA-Indiana partnered with the Arc Northwest Indiana (Gary), the WILL Center (Terre Haute), Indiana Department of Natural Resources (Indiana Government Center), Southeast Indiana Independent Living Center (Versailles), and ATTIC, Inc. (Vincennes).

Topics for the 2011-2012 Audio Conference Season

In addition to covering the revised regulations for Title I, II, and III of the ADA, the 2011-2012 Audio Conference Schedule will have sessions focusing on the following topics: Employment Issues, Legal Updates on ADA Litigation, the Built Environment, and other enforcement and technical assistance updates from the U.S. Department of Justice and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The 2011-2012 season is still in development, please see the SAMPLE Program Schedule for the 2010-2011 season (in Word and PDF) to get an idea of all the various topics that may be covered.
