ADA-Indiana and DBTAC-Great Lakes ADA Center proud to be able to provide training “from the source” for Indiana design and construction professionals, code officials, facility managers, and interested others. Our full day of training on the 2010 ADA Standards will include presenters from the U.S. Access Board and International Code Council.

The U.S. Department of Justice recently adopted the 2010 ADA Standards, and after March 15th, 2012, all new construction and alternations must comply with the new Standards. Until then, the 2010 Standards, 1991 Standards (without the elevator exemption), or UFAS (for public entities) may be used. The U.S. Access Board developed the accessibility guidelines that were included, with some additional requirements, in the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design adopted by the Department of Justice.

Presenter: Paul Beatty, Accessibility Specialist, U.S. Access Board

Paul Beatty, Accessibility Specialist from the U.S. Access Board, will provide an in-depth overview of the Standards, and answer questions from the audience.

Presenter: Kim Paarlberg, Senior Staff Architect, International Code Council

Kim Paarlberg, Senior Staff Architect, from the International Code Council will provide an overview of the harmonization efforts of the ICC and the Access Board pertaining to the accessibility requirements of the International Building Code and the 2010 ADA Standards. She will also discuss how the coordination in the accessibility requirements impact State Building Codes, including Indiana.

Each registrant will receive a copy of the 2010 Standards for Accessible Design, and Guidance on the Standards, courtesy of the Great Lakes ADA Center. Two tours (8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.) of the new JW Marriot Indianapolis has been arranged for interested registrants.
