
ADA-Indiana, in conjunction with the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community and the Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities, conducted a survey throughout 2005 to find out the answer to this question!
At the time of the survey it had been almost 15 years since the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed into law. The ADA promotes equal opportunity for people with disabilities to get jobs, receive government services, and access to public places like restaurants or theaters. The survey asked Indiana citizens to “grade” how well they thought their communities was complying with the ADA. There was also an opportunity for them to provide opinions and ideas about how to improve ADA implementation in their communities.
