Great Lakes ADA Center, and the ADA National Network
The Great Lakes ADA Center is one of the ten Regional ADA Centers, collectively called the ADA National Network, funded by through the U.S. Department of Education, National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research. The ADA Centers, also known as the DBTAC's, provide free technical assistance and training on the ADA. (The Great Lakes ADA Center services the State of Indiana, and is also one of the funding sources for the work of ADA-Indiana.)
Job Accommodation Network
The Job Accommodation Network (JAN) is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor to provide technical assistance and guidance on workplace accommodations and disability employment issues for employers (and employees). In addition to their free technical assistance, by phone and via the web (JAN on Demand), JAN also provides numerous resources on their website: http://www.askjan.org. Here are just a few:
- For Employers
- A to Z of Disabilities and Accommodations - JAN materials categorized by Disability and Topic.
- SOAR - SOAR is the acronym for JAN's Searchable Online Accommodation Resource.
- JAN's free Webcast Series and Rewind (Archive) - As you might expect, JAN provides disability employment-related webinars, many of which focus on a specific disability or issue such as "Accommodation Ideas for Employees with Traumatic Brain Injuries" , "Employing and Accommodating an Aging Workforce" , "Accommodations for Individuals with Mental Health Impairments" , "Veterans Issues" , and others.
Learn about the ADA
There are many ways to learn about the Americans with Disabilities Act. Some
of the resources we have available are listed below:
- ADA-Indiana's Monthly ADA Audio Conference program is offered in several
communities throughout the State. Each program year, there are generally some audio
conferences that would be of interest to employers (see the most recent Audio Conference Schedule).
- The ADA National Network has greatly expended their online instructional offerings to include ADA Webinars and other online training
opportunities. (Some of the organizations listed on the webinar and online training pages are not affiliated with the ADA National Network, but much like the Network, they are funded by the federal government to provide training on some area of the ADA.)
- Visit the ADA-Indiana's Publications page to learn about the print resources we have available (most of which are available at no cost to requestor). ADA-Indiana also funds the purchase of other resources (books, videos, and DVD's) on the ADA that can be obtained through a library loan.
