The Collaborative Work Lab (CWLab)

Lab Accommodations

The Collaborative Work Lab offers accommodations that allow each person to share ideas, plan, develop policies, and contribute to group activities. Accommodations to the CWLab include: wheelchair access, keyboard automation, sound enhancement, and computer video screen enlargement. Personal assistants and "chaffeurs,"  interpreter services, and materials in Braille are also available to users who desire such assistances.
 

Wheelchair Access(877 bytes) Wheelchair Access

Clearance under CWLab computer tables can be increased from 25 inches to either 31 or 36 inches using custom-designed lifting blocks. These heights are suitable for most types of wheelchairs. Moreover, CWLab laptop computers can be easily repositioned for maximum comfort and efficiency.
 

Keyboard Automation (877 bytes) Keyboard Automation

Supports are available for individuals with limited mobility. Sticky Keys designed for DOS and Windows-based computers allow individuals to depress several keys simultaneously with only one finger. This accommodation can be very useful for someone who has limited finger control or for an individual who types with a pointing stick. If an individual needs more assistance, a personal assistant will be provided to assist the user in the operating computers.
 

 Sound Enhancement(877 bytes) Sound Enhancement

For individuals who have difficulty hearing, Easy Listener is available to amplify sound while attending a group meeting. Easy Listener is an electronic device that employs FM signals to transmit sound. The range of the receiver is approximately 200 feet. Easy Listener can also be used as a wireless microphone during presentations.
 

 Visual Enhancement(877 bytes) Visual Enhancement

For individuals who need visual supports, ZoomText allows users to enlarge the size of print on their computer by line, window, or full screen. The ZoomText software package can magnify text from 2 to 16 times to support an individual with a visual impairment. If this magnification in not adequate, a personal assistant can be provided.
