MED Works Eligibility:

To be eligible for MED Works, you must:

  • Meet Indiana’s definition of disability (a physical or mental impairment verifiable by a physician that is expected to last 12 months or result in death

  • Be working (you must be able to verify your work through paycheck stubs,  income tax documents or some other form of documentation) AND you must pay FICA taxes

  • Be between the ages of 16-64

  • Have countable income that does not exceed 350% of the Federal Poverty Level. Medicaid will disregard some income when determining eligibility for MED Works, using a Countable Income Formula

  • Meet the MED Works Resource Limits

The countable income formula for MED Works is a formula used to determine if individuals are eligible for the program. The following are resources that are disregarded in the Countable Income Formula:

  • Infrequent or irregular income (up to $20 in a calendar quarter)

  • General Income Disregard of $15.50

  • Earned Income Disregard of $65.00

  • Impairment-Related Work Expenses

  • Tax Refunds

  • Grants or scholarships allowed by federal law

  • Income of the spouse or parents of the MED Works applicant

After the Countable Income Formula is applied, your income will be compared with the Federal Poverty Level.  If your income is less than 350% of the Federal Poverty Level, and you meet the resource guidelines, you will be eligible for MED Works.

The resource limits for MED Works are $2000 for individual and $3000 for a married couple. The resource limits are similar to those of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program.  In general, resources that are excluded are:

  • A car (if you use it to drive to work or medical appointments)

  • A home (if it is where you live).

  • Burial spaces

  • Retirement savings held by you or your spouse
