MED Works
Eligibility:
To be eligible for
MED Works,
you must:
-
Meet Indiana’s
definition of
disability
(a physical or
mental
impairment
verifiable by a
physician that
is expected to
last 12 months
or result in
death
-
Be working (you
must be able to
verify your work
through paycheck
stubs, income
tax documents or
some other form
of documentation)
AND you must pay
FICA
taxes
-
Be between the
ages of 16-64
-
Have countable
income that does
not exceed 350%
of the Federal
Poverty Level.
Medicaid will
disregard some
income when
determining
eligibility for
MED Works,
using a
Countable Income
Formula

Limits
The countable income
formula for MED
Works is a formula
used
to determine if
individuals are
eligible for the
program. The
following are
resources that are
disregarded in the
Countable Income
Formula:

Infrequent or
irregular income
(up to $20 in a
calendar
quarter)
-
General Income
Disregard
of $15.50
-
Earned Income
Disregard
of $65.00
-
Impairment-Related
Work Expenses
-
Tax Refunds
-
Grants or
scholarships
allowed by
federal law
-
Income of the
spouse or
parents of the
MED Works
applicant
After the Countable
Income Formula is
applied, your income
will be compared
with the
Federal Poverty
Level.
If your income is
less than 350% of
the Federal Poverty
Level, and you meet
the resource
guidelines, you will be
eligible for MED
Works.
The resource limits
for MED Works are
$2000 for individual
and $3000 for a
married couple. The
resource limits are
similar to those of
the
Supplemental
Security Income (SSI)
program. In
general, resources
that are excluded
are:

A car (if you
use it to drive
to work or
medical
appointments)
-
A home (if it is
where you live).

Burial spaces
-
Retirement
savings held by
you or your
spouse
