FAQs

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Work Incentives:
The Social Security Administration has several work incentives that may support an individual’s efforts to re-enter the workforce. The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program uses the Countable Income Formula to determine how much earnings reduce an individual’s SSI benefit check each month.

Individuals who receive SSI benefits must ALWAYS report their earnings each month to the Social Security Administration. The Social Security Administration must adjust the SSI check for following months based on previous month’s earnings. Failure to report earnings each month may result in an overpayment of SSI benefits.
