Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disability that generally appears during the first three years of life. Autism, Asperger syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS) are all part of the autism spectrum. ASD is a complex neurological disorder that affects a person's ability to communicate, understand language, play, and/or relate to others.
