Autism Modules on Evidence Based Practices
This online workshop is geared for general and special education teachers, administrators, autism consultants, speech therapists, psychologists, counselors and any other professionals working with individuals with a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder, or anyone needing professional growth points or graduate credit to fulfill licensure requirements. Certificates of attendance will be provided after completing the pre- and post-tests plus the two questionnaires for 16 hours of professional growth points for licensure.

This training will enable you to:
  • Understand the history, diagnosis, prevalence, and etiology of autism spectrum disorders.
  • Become familiar with 24 evidence based practice strategies which are best to use with individuals on the autism spectrum.
  • Implement the evidence based practices within your own job.

Four free online trainings reviewing various aspects of Article 7 are now available:

Article 7 Trainings
  • Article 7 Module: Transition-This training reviews Rules 43-1 through 43-7 under Indiana's Special Education Law which pertain to transition. Under Indiana law transition is defined twice, once when a child moves from Early Intervention to Preschool and then again when the child turns 14. Both of these transitions are covered under this video.
  • Article 7 Module: Discipline Procedures-This training reviews Rules 44-1 through 44-10 under Indiana's Special Education Law which pertain to discipline procedures.
  • Article 7 Module: Non-Public Schools-This training reviews Rules 34-1 through 34-10 under Indiana's Special Education Law which pertain to students attending a non-public school.
  • Article 7 Module: Procedural Safeguards-This training reviews Rules 37 under Indiana's Special Education Law which pertains to Procedural Safeguards and parental rights.

Integrating Therapy into Natural Environments and Everyday Routines

Early intervention providers are required by law to provide services in natural environments, and in doing so, are presented with the opportunity to work in a variety of settings. When providing integrated therapy, providers have endless possibilities for how to approach those services.

The following learner outcomes describe this three-hour, on-line module. Learners will:

  • Understand the legal & research foundations for integrating therapy into natural environments and everyday routines. (This training currently focuses on both U.S. law and Indiana regulations.)
  • Assess environments & propose activities which fit within family and child care routines.
  • Explore the use of reflective practice in integrated therapy.

Supporting Positive Family Outcomes

First Steps has identified and is responsible for addressing five family outcomes. This training focuses on understanding the parent perspective, developing a deeper insight into the lives of families with disabilities, and the development positive working relationships with families. It then highlights a variety of resources that can be shared with families to help address each of the five outcomes. Activities include written reflections , video, guided instruction on how to access resources, and time to explore the online resources presented.


In this six-hour module, learners will:

  • Develop their own family resource toolbox.
  • Apply the toolbox to address the five federal family outcomes.

Watch Me Grow: Supporting Essential Characteristics in Young Children

Participants will explore their role as facilitators of the ongoing development of infants and toddlers.  Through the recognition of the seven characteristics that enable a child to learn, participants will consider strategies to support a child’s outcomes so that s/he is ready for school.   This six-hour module uses video examples and interactive activities to help providers and others explore the framework of each characteristic and how by supporting these during child and family routines they can promote school readiness.

Learners will:

  • Determine strategies that support important learning characteristics.
  • Create a plan to embed support within daily routines.
  • Identify ongoing opportunities to assess characteristics.
