Center for Disability Information and Referral

The Center for Disability Information and Referral (CeDIR) is the primary information dissemination source of the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community at Indiana University, Bloomington.

Mission

CeDIR strives to provide access to authoritative information and resources for people with disabilities, their families and professionals through our library services and website.

Vision

We plan to achieve our mission by:

  • Utilizing technology to provide access for the widest possible audience.
  • Building partnerships with community groups and services to encourage collaboration and growth.
  • Being committed to providing the highest level of service through the continued professional development of students and staff.

Center Resources

A LENDING LIBRARY: Over 8,500 books, videos, and kits are available that may be borrowed by anyone in Indiana. The materials cover disabilities across the life span, life areas (such as education, employment, and recreation), and disciplines.

INTERNET SITE (WWW.IIDC.INDIANA.EDU/CEDIR): Our extensive site provides access to a wealth of information on a variety of disability-related topics as well as a comprehensive directory of state and local service providers. We also have a site just for kids that include games, book reviews, information about famous people with disabilities, and opportunities for children to be creative.

REFERENCE SERVICES: Our reference staff is here to help patrons with all of their disability-related information needs.  From finding services in their area, to laws about their child's education, or just a book on autism, we're here to ensure that patrons find the best information to meet their needs.

LISTSERV: This provides periodic quick updates on resources and services as well as distribution of our semi-annual newsletter.  .

BLOG: Our blog (http://cedir.blogspot.com ) provides readers with a plethora of disability-related information including current events, news, book reviews, bibliographies and more.  .

NEWSLETTER: Our semi-annual newsletter, titled CeDIR Citings, includes library news, book reviews, topical bibliographies, and other helpful information.

TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE:
In addition to the information resources outlined, Center staff are available to provide training and technical assistance. Areas of expertise include:
