Workshops Available for Adults with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities
Enhancing Leadership, Building Capacity and Promoting Self-Determination
After five years of remarkable success, the Building Leadership Series is being offered as a set or individual workshops. Each workshop is designed to be highly interactive with numerous opportunities for participant discussions, small and large-group activities, role playing, brainstorming, problem solving and debriefing. There are many occasions for participants to practice speaking up, asking questions, recording information and being the focus of an activity. Each workshop topic has a companion workbook that follows along with the presentation and allows for notes and key ideas to be included.
An ideal class size is 15 – 20 participants, and the workshop environment is off-site. The workshops are typically 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. with approximately 5½ hours’ work each day. Facilitators from CAC promote an atmosphere of open and honest conversations that develop rapport and trust. Everyone’s thoughts and opinions matter and are respected. Often a trainer with an intellectual/developmental disability helps co-facilitate the workshop.
These workshops can be held in one of two formats:
Jennie comes to you: Jennie will train your participants with I/DD in one or multiple workshops over time. You provide space, ideally off-site, and any meals or hospitality required from 9 am – 4 pm. Her travel and presentation fees are negotiable.
You come to Bloomington: We host your chosen workshop or set of workshops. Presentation fees are negotiable. We provide guidance for accommodations, travel and food, or we can provide all accommodations for a fee covering costs.
Please feel free to partner with multiple agencies to build a larger participant pool than your group alone might have.
