Cate offers a variety of effective professional learning opportunities to foster better collaboration and teaming as a vehicle to increase organizational and individual capacity in K-12 schools. Cate and Dr. Carrie Chapman co-authored Critical Conversations in Co-teaching: A Problem Solving Approach, published by Solution Tree, June, 2011. The book is a result of their efforts to train nearly 3000 educators in the art of shared practice in individual, school, and district-wide settings.

She provides training and technical assistance to school districts focused on service learning and project based and offers a service learning course to IU students. She facilitated VETS: Voicing Experiences through Service, a $1.3 million grant funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
