2011 Indiana Disability Poll: Shaping Indiana's Disability State Plan

The 2011 Indiana Disability Poll was part of a much larger project to gather information from the disability community. The topic was selected in order to incorporate the data as part of Indiana's State Disability Plan, to be submitted to the Administration on Developmental Disabilities. Every five years, each State must submit a State Disability Plan to the Administration on Developmental Disabilities, as mandated by the federal Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act. For Indiana, this task is conducted by the Indiana Governor's Council for People with Disabilities, which is the federally-legislated Developmental Disabilities Council that exists in every state.

Record Year for Responses to the Indiana Disability Poll

There was a record number of respondents to the 2011 Disability Poll. This final report includes responses from 1314 individuals, 179 of whom responded during the two days of the Annual Disability Conference. There were respondents from every one of Indiana's 92 counties. Respondents included 315 individuals with a disability (24%), 538 family members of a person with a disability (41%), 413 who work in the disability field (32%), and 48 (4%) who indicated they were "another person without a disability." The survey was available from November 2010 to May 2011. People responded via an Internet survey or on paper survey forms.

The Annual Indiana Disability Poll

The annual Disability Poll is a joint project of the Center for Planning and Policy Studies, the Indiana Governor's Council for People with Disabilities, and Indiana Protection and Advocacy Services. Each year, a topic of interest to the disability community is selected, and then an online survey is developed.
