I began my career in education as a middle school English and Social Studies teacher and a high school softball and basketball coach. While in graduate school I had the opportunity to supervise student teachers and teach a variety of courses at the university level. My focus as a doctoral student was on issues of diversity, specifically social class, gender, and sexual orientation. I am also very interested in alternative education and conducted an ethnographic dissertation study on high school dropouts. After completing my PhD, I was a professor of education and liberal arts for six years. Before joining CELL, I spent two years in the public school setting working once again with alternative education programming to support struggling high school students. I currently teach part time for Walden University in an on-line doctoral program in education as a qualitative methodologist and socio-cultural specialist. My work with CELL is in authentic assessment and instruction and supporting teachers in the implementation of Universal Design for Differentiated Instruction and culturally responsive teaching.
