Then this is the online workshop for you. It is geared towards general and special education teachers, administrators, autism consultants, speech therapists, psychologists, counselors and any other professionals working with individuals with a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder.
Topics Include:
Session 1: Understanding PDD/ASD (history, diagnosis, prevalence, etiology).
Session 2: Characteristics of ASD including the core triad.
Session 3: Assessment of ASD.
Session 4: Nine guiding principles (e.g., family centered
practices, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, using evidence based
practices, and data collection).
Session 5: Factors affecting learning and development.
Session 6: Instructional strategies and learning
environments including core instructional strategies (e.g., prompting, time
delay, chaining, shaping, reinforcement, extinction, and visual supports) and
learning environments (e.g., visual schedules and work systems).
Session 7: Foundations of Communication and Social
Interactions (e.g., social skills, functional communication training, imitating
and modeling, naturalistic strategies, peer mediation instruction, picture
exchange communication, pivotal response training, social narratives, video
modeling, and voice output communication aids).
Session 8: Promoting Positive Behavior and Reducing Interfering Behaviors (e.g., conducting functional behavior assessments, development comprehensive behavior interventions, encouraging positive behavior and reducing interfering behaviors with a tiered intervention approach, and obtaining a medical evaluation).
