Selected bibliography: Communication literature related to autism spectrum disorders
Offered by Beverly Vicker No single book, article, or video will provide complete assistance to the person interesting in understanding the complexity of the communication disability experienced by various individuals with autism spectrum disorder. This bibliography lists materials that may provide both overview and more specific information to support both verbal and nonverbal individuals. It includes references that represent a range of theories, opinions, and options for intervention. The listing of a reference does not constitute endorsement by the Indiana Resource Center for Autism, the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, or Indiana University. Biographies and autobiographies as well as references that provide general information about autism spectrum disorders, alternative treatments, educational approaches, family issues, and augmentative communication programming are listed on other IRCA bibliographies. (See notation regarding additional resources at the end of this bibliography.) Although some of the materials may be available from the library at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, others will need to be borrowed through local interlibrary loan programs. Call CeDIR (Center for Disability Information and Referral) at (800) 437-7924 (toll free in Indiana; voice/TT); (812) 855-9396 (Bloomington; voice/TT) to check on the availability of a specific publication. Materials are only available for checkout by Indiana residents.
