Co-Teaching Regional Workshops: The Indiana Department of Education and the Indiana Institute's Center on Education and Lifelong Learning have added two additional training opportunities for teachers, paraeducators, and administrators interested in learning more about ways to co-teach and work with others to benefit all students in the general education classroom environment.

These regional workshops focus on co-teaching and team teaching as they relate to recent legislation regarding highly qualified teachers. No Child Left Behind specifies that highly qualified teachers:

Understand the many co-teaching options through which students, with and xwithout disabilities, are now served; and

Refine their skills for interacting with other professionals and parents.

Research shows that the most important factor in improving student achievement is teacher quality. Although most educators enter the field because of their commitment to work with all students, we know that many educators do not have the necessary skills and knowledge to meet the needs of our changing school population.

Workshop dates and locations include:

January 24, 2007
Columbia City, IN

January 31, 2007
Greenwood, IN

February 8, 2007
Michigan City, IN

February 21, 2007
Evansville, IN

No registration fees are associated with these workshops. Participants will be eligible to enroll in the Highly Qualified Summer Camp to be held June 19-21, 2007 in Bloomington, IN (three Indiana University graduate credits will be offered in conjunction with this Summer Camp). To register, contact Kay Moore at (812) 855-6508, e-mail moorel@indiana.edu.

Employment Specialist Training (EST) Series for 2007: The Indiana Supported Employment Training Team (ISETT) will present a series of intensive training sessions designed to provide basic skills to service providers who have worked as employment specialists for less than one year.

Attendees learn best practices in job and career development, employment support planning, ecological analysis, follow-a long, and emerging industry trends. EST is a six-day training split into two sessions held one month apart. An exit test is required for participants seeking certification. Individuals who attend all days of both sessions and successfully complete the exit test receive a competency-based certificate from Indiana University. CEUs and CRUs are available.

To date, EST training team has trained and certified over 2,000 employment specialists in the state of Indiana. Past participants have included job coaches, teachers, job developers, parents, mental health professionals, vocational coordinators, state agency and Work One staff.
