Coming Up

ADA Audio Conference: ADA-Indiana is hosting a free audio conference on Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) contract ed with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) to look at EEOC data on Title I complaints and resolutions collected since the implementation of the employment provisions of the ADA. Dr. Brian McMahon will give an overview of the project and what they have found out so far. There will be time allotted for questions and answers with the research team.

The audio conference will be held on Tuesday, March 20th from 2:00-3:30 p.m. (EDT) in five different Indiana locations and will be of special interest to employers, human resource personnel, state and local government officials, advocates, people with disabilities, and other interested community members. No pre-registration is required. SHRM and CRC credits are available. The session is free at the locations sponsored by ADA-Indiana.

Event Date Change

How to Access School Readiness Workshop: The Early Childhood Center at the Institute has changed the date for their workshop entitled, How to Assess School Readiness: Research to Reality to March 26-27, 2007. The original February 15-16 date was cancelled due to adverse weather. The workshop will be held at MSD of Washington Township, Indianapolis. Summer Institute on Autism Spectrum Disorders: The Institute's Indiana Resource Center for Autism will offer a five-day Summer Institute on Educating and Supporting Individuals Across the Autism Spectrum from June 11-15, 2007.

Topics to be addressed include:

· Introduction to autism spectrum disorders;
· The role of movement disorders;
· Person-centered planning;
· Functional behavioral assessments;
· Communication programming;
· Visual supports
· Social skills assessment and programming; and
· Instructional strategies.

Registration is $350.00 per person. Three Indiana University graduate credits will be offered with enrollment on the first day of course. Graduate credit fees are determined by Indiana University . xNew Family Resource Website for Hoosiers with Children Birth to xAge Five: The Early Childhood Meeting Place website xhttp://earlychildhoodmeetingplace.indiana.edu/ is a gateway to information, xservices, and resources for Indiana's early educationxprofessionals and xfamilies. This user-friendly site provides an events calendar, program resources, early education career opportunities, news, and agency and organization profiles.

Now, a new Family Information and Resources section has been added for Hoosier parents of young children, birth through age five years. This directory provides access to listings of family resources available in local communities, counties, and throughout the state. Information sections include:

· Community Resources;
· Child Care and Early Education;
· Health and Safety; and
· Parenting and Families.

If your agency or organization provides services for families and young children, birth through age five, please help spread the word! Informational materials such as posters, bookmarks, and flyers are available, free of charge, at http://www.iidc.indiana.edu/ecc/ECMP/2007MktgOrderForm.pdf.

Additionally, if your agency is not yet listed on the Early Childhood Meeting Place, please consider setting up an account to post information about your organization. This is a free service and access to the site is available 24/7. Please e-mail eccenter@indiana.edu for more information.
