Cover Art: Journal of Remedial and Special EducationxJournal Article Published: An examination of the effectiveness of xschool-based social skills interventions for children and adolescents with xAutism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) is the focus of a new journal article xpublished by the Institute’s Scott Bellini,xAssistant Director, Indiana xResource Center for Autism.xCoauthors include Jessica Peters, Lauren xBenner, and Andrea Hopf, who are doctoral students within the School xPsychology program at Indiana University.

A Meta-Analysis of School-Based Social Skills Interventions for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, published in this month’s Journal of Remedial and Special Education, suggests that social skills interventions have been minimally effective for children with ASD. A meta-analysis of 55 single-subject design studies were examined. Specific participant, setting, and procedural features that lead to the most effective intervention outcomes are highlighted, and implications for school personnel are discussed. These results were compared to outcomes of similar meta-analysis involving social skills interventions with other populations of children. For more information regarding this study, contact Bellini at the Indiana Institute (812) 855-6508 or e-mail sbellini@indiana.edu.
