ADA-Indiana September Audio Conference: ADA-Indiana invites you to attend its September audio conference entitled Accommodating Diabetes in the Workplace on Tuesday, September 18, from 2:00-3:30 p.m. (EDT) in four Indiana locations.
Diabetes is one of the most commonly identified medical conditions in the workplace. The courts cases are split regarding coverage of diabetes under the ADA. Join this session to learn more about the prevalence of diabetes in the general population and how individuals are working with employers to identify accommodations that will enable qualified individuals to retain their jobs. Various types of accommodations will be discussed across a variety of work settings. Learn about best practices for accommodation that can be implemented in the workplace to support both the employee and the employer.
Guest speakers will include Dr. Pamela Allweiss, University of Kentucky, CDC and NIH Consultant and Shereen Arent, Legal Advocacy at the American Diabetes Association. This session will be of special interest to employers, human resource personnel, and other interested community members. No pre-registration is required. SHRM and CRC continuing education credits are available. The session is free at the locations sponsored by ADA-Indiana.

Note: Because of construction of the IU’s new “Big Red” supercomputer, there are several different parking options at the Indiana Institute:
· Entering from the By-Pass: Park at the top of the hill near the day care center and walk xdown the hill to the side entrance
· Entering from Range Road (off West 10th Street): Drive all the way to the redxbrick xcomplex and park in the Institute parking area.
· Entering off of East Tenth Street: You may also park in the Stonebelt and
xUITS lots and walk to the Institute.

Lookin’ Toward November: The Institute’s Indiana Resource Center for Autism will host two one-day workshops focusing on applied behavior analysis strategies proven effective in public school settings for students with autism. Specific techniques such as reinforcement, teaching strategies, behavior modification, and social skill development will be explored and examples of each will be discussed. Video tape and role play will be used to demonstrate techniques.
James Ball, Ed.D., BCBA, will be the featured speaker. Ball has been in the field of autism for 20 years working in the private sector providing educational/employment/residential services to children and adults affected by autism in a variety of settings. Currently, he is the Clinical Director of Caring Technologies, a web-based company, with a mission to explore the way technology can enhance the lives of individuals on the autism spectrum and their families as well as the Director of Clinical Services for New York Families of Autistic Children (NYFAC).

Registration fee is $120.00 per person. These workshops are geared for general and special education teachers, administrators, early intervention providers, family members, and those interested in learning more about educating students on the autism spectrum. Certificates of Attendance will be provided. Upon approval by the Indiana Professional Standards Board, Certification Renewal Units (CRUs) and Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be available. Note: Only families whose children are under eight years old are eligible to apply for IN*SOURCE dollars.
