TEACCH Five-Day Classroom Training Program for Professionals who Work with Students with Autism: Since 1972, Division TEACCH has coordinated the nation’s largest statewide education and treatment program of children and adults with autism and related communication disabilities. Current practices and pressures in the field of special education have increased the need for comprehensive training for working with students with autism and other severe behavior, learning, and communication difficulties.

To meet these training needs in Indiana, the Institute’s Indiana Resource Center for Autism in collaboration with the Monroe County Community School Corporation, will host the TEACCH five-day training program on June 2-6, 2008, at Arlington Heights Elementary School located in Bloomington, Indiana.

The pace of the program is intensive with a daily schedule that combines hands-on classroom experiences, lectures on topics related to working with students with autism, and group discussions of classroom activities. Activities include:

A direct, supervised experience in a demonstration classroom setting;

Hands-on experience with students with autism of varying ages (within elementary, middle, and high school range) and functioning levels;

An intense period of active leaning; and

Presentations and demonstrations of working with students with autism, given by TEACCH experts.

Registration fee is $1,600.00 per person. Attendance is required for all five days. Registration is limited to 25 participants. This workshop is designed for teachers, psychologists, physicians, speech and language therapists, as well as researchers, clinicians, and others interested in education students with autism and related developmental disabilities.

Certificates of attendance will be provided free. CEUs (general) and CRUs will be available on-site for an administrative fee of $15.00. Additionally, graduate credits from Indiana University will be offered. Registration and course information will be made available on the first day.

2008 Indiana Statewide Transition
Conference: Mark your calendars and plan to attend the 2008 Indiana Statewide Transition Conference entitled Paddle Your Own Canoe, scheduled for August 6-7, 2008 at the Sheraton Hotel and Suites, Indianapolis.

This conference will provide opportunities for individuals engaged in transition services to share information, sharpen skills, and re-ignite their commitment to the task of advancing transition outcomes in their own communities. This bi-yearly conference provides multiple venues for participants to gain new knowledge in the area of transition, based on research and practical knowledge. Attendees will enjoy quality speakers, productive dialogues, formal and informal networking, and exhibitors of tools and techniques to enhance transition outcomes and the lives of young adults with disabilities. Conference planners believe that self-determination should be infused in all we do so, come “Paddle Your Own Canoe.”
