Sharing Life Stories: The Museum of the Person International Network (Brazil, Portugal, USA and Portugal) and the Center for Digital Storytelling (USA) invites you and/or your organization to join Listen! - International Day of Sharing Life Stories, on May 16th 2008. The day will be an opportunity for people around the world to gather in community halls, classrooms, public parks, theaters, auditoriums, as well as websites, e-mail exchanges, and virtual environments to hear each other’s stories.
International Day advances an international movement of global citizens who view listening, collecting and sharing life stories as a critical process in democratizing culture and promoting social change. We want this day to be especially dedicated to celebrating and promoting Life Story projects that have made a difference within neighborhoods, communities, and societies as a whole.
Exhibits events in Bloomington include:
Thoughts, Things, and Theories...What Is Culture? and Botánica: A Pharmacy for the Soul - Mathers Museum throughout the week of May 12-16 (Admission to the Museum is free).

Structured Teaching Strategies Workshop: The Institute’s Indiana Resource Center for Autism will sponsor a two-day workshop entitled Structured Teaching Strategies (as developed by the TEACCH Program) presented by Catherine Davies, on September 10 and October 12, 2008 at the Indiana Institute, in Bloomington.
Day one of the workshop will focus on the rational for using structured teaching and outline the different types of structure.
Day two will involve discussions, sharing (participants will be encouraged to bring photographs and materials), and problem solving around the implementation of structured teaching in participants’ individual situations.
Follow-up consultation is optional. Participants will have the opportunity to apply their techniques in their settings. Follow-up will be tailored to the situation and will include a brief discussion of the issues, an observation, a meeting with teacher/key staff, and a written follow-up.
Catherine Davies is an Educational Consultant with the Indiana Resource Center for Autism. She has over 20 years experience working with children and adults with autism spectrum disorders and was a special education teacher, school and clinical psychologist.
Registration fee is $175.00 per person. Certificates of attendance will be provided free. CEUs (Continuing Education Units –general education) and CRUs (Certification Renewal Units) will be available on-site.
