Indiana’s 18th Anniversary of the ADA: ADA-Indiana will commemorate the 18th Anniversary of the ADA this coming week. This summer has been full of news about the Americans with Disabilities Act, whether it is the new rules coming from the U.S. Department of Justice, or the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 making its way through Congress. ADA-Indiana will celebrate the anniversary by offering training opportunities in several communities.
On Tuesday, July 22, Ric Edwards, ADA-Indiana’s Chairperson, will host ADA Legal Issues: ADA Coverage Beyond Actual Disability at the Indiana Government Center, Teleconference Room from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. EDT, Indianapolis. The workshop is recommended for human resource professionals and employers. It is free and open to the public.
On Friday, July 25th ADA-Indiana will host a videoconference event, Election Year: Celebrate Your Vote and the ADA, in four Indiana communities. The event will take place from 10:00 - 12:30 p.m. (EDT) and will feature Jeffrey Chait, Research Associate, from the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community and Julia Bauler, from the Office of the Indiana Secretary of State.

EST Training for August: Mark your calendars for August 5-7 and September 9-11, 2008 and plan to attend the Indiana Supported Employment Training Team (ISETT) Employment Specialist Training session to be held at Easterseals Crossroads, Indianapolis.
EST is designed to provide basic skills to service providers who have worked as employment specialists for less than one year. Attendees learn best practices in job and career development, employment support planning, ecological analysis, follow-along, and emerging industry trends.
EST is a six-day training split into two sessions held one month apart. An exit test is required for participants seeking certification. Individuals who attend all days of both sessions and successfully complete the exit test receive a competency-based certificate from Indiana University. CEUs and CRUs are available. To date, the EST training team has trained and certified over 2,500 employment specialists in the state of Indiana. Past participants have included job coaches, teachers, job developers, parents, mental health professionals, vocational coordinators, state agency and Work One staff.

In Monroe County
Parent to Parent Mentor Program: The Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) Parent Teacher Advisory Council for Special Education (PTACSE) is pleased to announce a new Parent to Parent Mentor Program to pair a family with a child in an MCCSC school with a family with a child entering or recently enrolled in that school. As a program through PTACSE, the emphasis will be on matching families with children with IEPs.
This will be an ongoing program, but will be formally launched at the August 11 PTACSE meeting, at 6:30 p.m. at the Monroe County Library. If you would like to be part of this program, please send:

· The name/age of your child(ren);
· The school where your child(ren) are or will be enrolled; and
· Indicate if you would like to be a mentor or would like to be matched with one.
