Applied research. Practical support. Stronger systems.
CBSI is an interdisciplinary center at Indiana University’s Indiana Institute on Disability and Community. We bring together behavioral science, organizational and workforce improvement, implementation support, training, consultation, and research-to-practice partnerships.
Our work is relevant across general and special education, disability and autism services, behavioral health, healthcare, employment, workplaces, justice and public safety, home, and community settings.
What makes CBSI different
We work across levels of change.
Lasting outcomes rarely come from a single training or isolated program. CBSI helps partners connect individual behavior, professional practice, team performance, organizational conditions, and system priorities.
Our work may begin with a person, classroom, team, workplace, organization, or community, but it is designed with implementation, coordination, performance improvement, and sustainability in mind.
Our role
An intermediary between evidence and implementation.
CBSI helps partners move research into practice by connecting researchers, practitioners, organizations, and communities. We examine readiness, barriers, facilitators, and other conditions that influence change; translate evidence into usable approaches; and build the local capacity needed to implement and sustain effective practice.
Our aim is not simply to introduce an idea. It is to help partners build the knowledge, skills, relationships, and local capacity needed to carry the work forward.
How We Work
Five stages that partners move through and return to.
These are not steps to complete once. Work cycles through them as conditions, staffing, priorities, and evidence change, and partners often revisit an earlier stage before moving forward again.
