Current Projects
Work in Motion
CBSI current projects bring people, organizations, and systems together around practical challenges and opportunities. Some projects deliver direct training or resources; others build networks, test approaches, develop workforce capacity, strengthen implementation, or create the conditions for broader change.
Current projects vary in size, setting, audience, and stage of implementation, but they share a common foundation:
- Begin with a meaningful need.
- Involve the people closest to the work.
- Connect evidence with local knowledge.
- Build practical capacity.
- Use data and feedback to learn.
- Consider what will be needed for the work to continue or grow.
Current Project Highlights
Peers as Partners Network
The Peers as Partners Network brings autistic and non-autistic students together as peer leaders to strengthen autism understanding, connection, participation, and meaningful relationships in schools. Students help shape activities, lead peer learning, mentor younger students, and support approaches that can be sustained within their school communities.
CBSI supports the network through coordination, training, mentoring, practical tools, community and school partnership, and ongoing learning about what helps peer-led work take hold.
Peers as Partners Network is supported by a Peer Education Grant from the Organization for Autism Research (OAR).

Additional Current Work
HANDS in Autism® and HANDSmade™
HANDS remains CBSI's signature applied model and training initiative. Its current work includes training, consultation, coaching, tools, implementation supports, partnerships, and HANDSmade™ employment pathways. Rather than duplicate the full HANDS project and service descriptions, CBSI provides a short summary and directs visitors to the appropriate HANDS page.
Autism Engagement Network
The Autism Engagement Network connects autistic people, families, practitioners, researchers, agencies, and community partners. It supports relationship building, recruitment, information sharing, research participation, and coordinated action while helping CBSI and HANDS keep priorities and implementation grounded in community experience.
Connect With a Project
Find the right point of entry
Some projects invite participants, schools, organizations, advisors, research partners, students, or funders; others may be active with a defined group and not currently recruiting. Each listing should state whether participation is open and provide a specific contact or next step. Visitors with a related need can also contact CBSI for help identifying a relevant project, initiative, HANDS resource, IRCA connection, or potential partnership.
