Global Initiatives
Learning Across Contexts and Borders
CBSI builds on HANDS' international relationships to support reciprocal learning, locally relevant adaptation, and shared inquiry about behavior, education, workforce development, services, and systems.
Global Direction
Expand through partnership, not transplantation
Practices and training developed in one context cannot simply be transferred to another. Global work should begin with local priorities, cultural and community knowledge, language, workforce conditions, policy, available resources, and existing approaches. CBSI can contribute implementation, training, research, facilitation, and evaluation expertise while international partners lead decisions about fit, adaptation, delivery, and sustainability in their settings.
Areas in Development
CBSI is exploring opportunities to extend HANDS' global relationships through reciprocal learning, research, mentoring, and locally guided implementation. Emerging work will be shaped with international partners to reflect local priorities, knowledge, cultures, and systems.
Expanding HANDS' Work With IASSIDD
Exploring collaboration that connects researchers, practitioners, students, people with lived experience, and organizations through international learning communities, mentoring, conferences, cross-context research, workforce development, and locally led adaptation of HANDS-informed supports.
Principles for Global Work
Reciprocity
Every partner contributes expertise and gains useful learning or capacity.
Local Leadership
Priorities, adaptations, and implementation decisions are guided by people and organizations in the participating context.
Clarity
Roles, resources, authorship, data stewardship, timelines, and intended benefits are agreed upon early.
Cultural and Contextual Fit
Language, examples, measures, delivery, and expectations are reviewed rather than assumed to transfer.
Sustainability
Plans address local ownership, workforce capacity, ongoing support, and realistic resource needs.
Connection to HANDS
Building on a global foundation
HANDS in Autism® has developed international relationships through shared learning, training, consultation, research, and locally informed adaptation. CBSI builds on this foundation by creating opportunities for broader interdisciplinary collaboration across behavioral health, education, disability, employment, workforce development, and community systems.
