Implementation Support
Strengthen adoption, quality, and sustainability
CBSI helps partners move from selecting an approach to putting it into consistent, high-quality use. Support connects practice with the people, roles, training, coaching, data, leadership, routines, and infrastructure needed for implementation.
From an Effective Idea to Routine Use
Identifying a practice is not the same as implementing it
A program, practice, or tool can be well supported by evidence and still be difficult to use consistently. Implementation is influenced by fit, readiness, staffing, role clarity, training, coaching, leadership, workflow, data, resources, policy, and changing local conditions.
CBSI works with partners to understand these conditions, define what needs to remain consistent, identify what can be adapted, and build a practical pathway from exploration through sustained use.
Implementation Develops Over Time
Use phases as guides rather than a rigid checklist. Teams may revisit an earlier phase when leadership, staffing, priorities, evidence, resources, or local conditions change.
| Phase | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Exploration | Clarify the need, learn from the people closest to the work, examine possible approaches, and assess fit and readiness. |
| Installation | Put the people, roles, resources, training, data systems, leadership supports, and practical infrastructure in place. |
| Initial Implementation | Begin using the approach, expect challenges, provide coaching and feedback, and solve problems while routines are developing. |
| Full Implementation | Support consistent, high-quality use as part of everyday work while continuing to monitor outcomes, learn, and improve. |
Areas of Implementation Support
See all areas
- Clarifying the need, intended outcomes, and people affected.
- Assessing fit, readiness, strengths, barriers, and available capacity.
- Defining core practices and identifying elements that may be adapted.
- Establishing implementation teams, roles, decision pathways, and communication routines.
- Developing implementation plans, timelines, tools, and practical infrastructure.
- Preparing people through training, demonstration, practice, coaching, and mentoring.
- Selecting useful measures and building data, quality, fidelity, and feedback routines.
- Strengthening leadership, administrative, workflow, and organizational supports.
- Planning for local ownership, sustainability, and responsible expansion.
Targeted Technical Assistance or Sustained Partnership
Match intensity to the work
An engagement may include targeted technical assistance, such as data review, guidance, planning, tools, or problem solving around a defined issue. More complex work may require sustained support across months or phases, with coaching, leadership engagement, infrastructure development, regular feedback, and shared review.
Implementation support can be tailored to an individual team, a single site, multiple locations, an organization, a network, or a broader community or statewide initiative.
Adapt With Purpose
Preserve quality while responding to context
CBSI helps partners distinguish the core elements that support an approach from features that can be adapted to culture, language, setting, workforce, resources, and local routines. Data and experience are used to review both implementation and outcomes so adjustments are deliberate rather than accidental.
Expansion is considered when evidence, partner capacity, safeguards, implementation supports, and local conditions support the next step.
