Family values, access to resources and health care, poverty, and language can all be factors in establishing trust and working successfully with job seekers and supported employees. Indiana Vocational Rehabilitation VR personnel and the staff of community employment service providers in Indiana must be aware of and understand cultural differences in order to ensure an effective rehabilitation process for each consumer.
Beginning next month, IIDC’s Center on Community Living and Careers (CCLC) will host “Starting the Journey Toward Cultural Responsivity,” a free, three-part webinar series for community employment specialists and program managers and for Indiana VR counselors, coordinators, and leadership staff.
The webinars will be led by Renae Azziz, director of educational partnerships and founder of Virtuoso Educational Consulting. Azziz will guide participants as they explore the definition of culture and engage in activities focused on building awareness of their own cultures and the cultures of others. She'll also provide resources that will support the development of the skills employment professionals need to effectively manage the dynamics of cultural difference.
Webinar dates and topics:
• May 1, Awareness of Cultural Responsivity
• May 8, The Relevancy of Culture in the Employment Process
• May 15, Practical Application: Strategies and Tools for You
All three webinars will be conducted via Zoom and will take place from 10 -11 a.m., Eastern Time. There is no need to register. Participants can use the links above to connect to a webinar prior to the start time.
