It's rare when community employment managers and Indiana Vocational Rehabilitation leadership staff have the chance to meet face-to-face or to plan for and implement systems change. The Leadership Training Series, sponsored by Indiana VR, creates that opportunity for colleagues to confer and look at opportunities for growth and improvement.
The Leadership Training Series
Starting the Journey Toward Cultural Responsivity
Note: Due to COVID-19 precautions, we have restructured our Leadership Strategies Series training with Dr. Renae Azziz. This training, now a three-part webinar series, is free and open to VR supervisors and staff as well as employment specialists, program managers, other staff of community employment providers, and Indiana employment professionals.
VR and the staff of community employment services in Indiana must be aware of and understand cultural differences in order to ensure an effective rehabilitation process for each consumer. Family values, access to resources and health care, poverty, and language can all be factors in establishing trust and working successfully with job seekers and supported employees.
Further, Employment Program Managers and VR Supervisors should be prepared to monitor the implementation of culturally responsive practices and offer guidance to staff when needed. During this FREE, three-part webinar series, participants will explore the definition of culture and engage in activities focused on building awareness of their own cultures and the cultures of others. They'll also receive resources that will support the development of skills employment professionals need to effectively manage the dynamics of cultural difference.
Featuring: Renae Azziz, Ed.D, Director of Educational Partnerships and Founder, Virtuoso Educational Consulting
Dr. Azziz will discuss the relevance of culture in the employment process. She'll share strategies and tools with participants that they can use as they meet and work with Indiana job seekers.
