BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The 16th annual Autism Art Expo will take place April 24 and April 27 at the Indiana Memorial Union on the Indiana University Bloomington campus, featuring artwork by individuals with disabilities from across Indiana and beyond. Hosted by HANDS in Autism®, the event features this year’s theme, “Art of the Mind,” which celebrates the creativity, talent, and unique perspectives of individuals with autism and related disabilities.
Held during Autism Acceptance Month, the Autism Art Expo underscores a growing national emphasis on integration and the recognition of neurodiversity. The event is designed to foster understanding and support autistic individuals through the universal language of art.
“This event is about more than showcasing artwork — it’s about creating space for individuals with autism to be seen, heard and valued for their unique perspectives,” said Dr Tiffany Neal, director of HANDS in Autism. “The Autism Art Expo highlights the creativity within our communities while advancing meaningful conversations about acceptance and inclusion.”
The exhibit will feature a diverse collection of artwork from individuals of all ages across Indiana and beyond, highlighting the power of artistic expression in its many forms. Featured artist and creator of this year’s event logo is Ryan Steiner. Steiner, who serves on the Indiana Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities, recently completed the ARC Advocacy Leadership Fellow training and is using his skills to impact the lives of disabled and autistic individuals.
Community members, families, educators, and advocates are invited to attend and experience the exhibit, offering an opportunity to celebrate neurodiversity and engage with artists and their work in an inclusive environment.
HANDS in Autism is a Center of the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community at Indiana University Bloomington. The organization provides training, consultation and resources that support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and related needs across the lifespan.
